A Basic Knowledge Of Hyperopia

Myopia, or nearsightedness, refers to an eyesight problem

, which would contribute to blur vision of distant objects. Similarly, it can be very easy to conclude that hyperopia, or farsightedness, refers to an eyesight problem, which would contribute to blur vision of nearby objects. One suffering from hyperopia, for example, would feel hard to read text in books or newspapers but find it no problem to read distant traffic signs. In general, hyperopia is the inability to properly focus on close up objects, and then what are its symptoms? How to diagnose? What are the treatments?

Contrary to nearsightedness, people suffering from farsightedness would experience blur vision when viewing close objects. This can be the main symptom of hyperopia. Therefore, once you feel hard to view close up objects, you may be farsighted. Besides, you may be farsighted if you use reading glasses but have no need of glasses to see distant objects.

To make it sure, usually a routine eye exam is necessary. People suffering from hyperopia are mostly middle aged, because hyperopia itself begins as one ages. That is to say, people in their 40s and 50s are most probably notice such an eyesight problem. Like myopia, hyperopia effects differently on different sufferers, and it varies from mild to moderate to high. The condition are supposed to get worsened year after year, and mild cases may not require any corrective action.

One is able to get a clear vision of the close objects by wearing correct eyeglasses and contact lenses, however, usually he/she has to take off the glasses or contacts when they are intended to see distant objects. This is the primary problem, which has been resolved by the invention of bifocal eyeglasses, whose lower portion allows the wearers to focus on close objects and the top portion is optimized for distance focusing.

However, with the researches done in this field, researchers find an easy and convenient way to correct farsightedness. That is the Lasik eye surgery, which is accomplished by a laser, which is applied to reshape the cornea so that close up focusing ability can be restored. At the very beginning, both of the two eyes would be undergone such a surgery, however, doctors find that it is not a wise option, for if the surgery correct focusing for close up objects, distance focusing was sacrificed.

But the exploration is endless, doctors find that the farsightedness correction can be achieved by performing Lasik only on one eye. That is to say, only one eye would receive the Lasik treatment to improve close distance focusing and after the surgery, the two eyes have to cooperate to bring clear vision, both far and near.
