A Blank Check: Is The Economy Even Real

Money, they say, makes the world go round

Money, they say, makes the world go round. In fact the Earth and the Universes general gravitational pull is actually what makes the world rotate but still the point is clear, money moves things. Well actually that is not entirely right either these days, sure "money" makes the world go around but really it is more a vast infrastructure of representations of value most of which occurs on computers. Credit, banks and of course when it all boils down to it checks online make the world, the markets and mankind as a whole move in all sorts of directions.

The system of money behind each blank check is an interesting and vast network that assigns accounts value based on stocks of gold and various variables. Global markets, national GDP, costs of gas and other important commodities all combine to actually develop a sense of what the very value of each of our bank accounts. The system is an interesting device of human ingenuity or perhaps more accurately human evolution. As people developed more and more complex systems of bartering, sharing and trading the entirety of human kind became more and more married to a thing that developed called the economy. Soon banks were formed and from there systems of credit and of course business checks and personal checks used to represent the money we held in the bank became common.

That such an a system exists at all seems less and less special to mankind and more and more like a thing that seemingly fell from the sky out of a weird collective cry of necessity. The economy of coarse is in fact a combination of human audacity and ingenuity with some smaller elements of risky theorizing. Yet still we trust our banks and we trust that business checks we receive are what they purport to be. They are an indication of value and a valid way to compensate people for services rendered and goods acquired. The whole thing is a bit like any elaborate math theorem and yet we have reached a juncture where it is accepted that this thing exists, that stuff has value and that money is a thing.

When you order checks online or fill out blank checks it is hard to even grasp the greater whole of the economy as a thing. Luckily the system while far from perfect has been built, regulated and rethought for decades leaving it mostly to be an accurate indicator of something.
