A Brief History Of Aluminium Railings

Railings are a system that is designed to keep people or vehicles from straying into private property or other off limit areas

. They are also required to provide safety for falling from the first or higher floors of a building, and when required to allow for privacy of the occupants of the building. The normal standard for railings is to maintain a separation of four inches between the bars; however modifications are done to suit the user.

Traditionally iron, brick and steel railings were used more often as these materials are more available and as per existing technology could be forged into designs that catered for the practical requirements and artistic tastes of all consumers, in both professional and residential buildings. However these require regular maintenance, i.e. repair due to rusting, re-painting due to wearing off of paint, and replacement when the general deterioration occurs.

With improvement of technology Aluminium presented with an improved option and substitute for all the traditional materials with strength, weight, installation and designs being better. These are well suited for residential and commercial buildings with traditional or modern architectural styles.

Advantages of having Aluminium Strength:

Aluminium railings have the advantage of being more easily available and lighter while retaining strength comparable to the wooden, brick and iron ones. They can be fabricated very easily for fitment in any kind of building and installation is very simple and can be done with fasteners while retaining the strength. The lesser weight reduces the stress on the fastening to the building structure, the pillars of the railing itself and reduces the time and effort of installation.

They can be fabricated in pre-assembled sections that substantially reduce transportation and installation time. Different grades of rails are available so as to cater for strength, design and budgetary variations.

Aluminium railings are available in its natural colour and in an assortment of shades to suit the building. This is done by baked powder coating the bars as per the pre-decided colour and can even be given a wood finish.

The powder coating can be cleaned very easily and is very long lasting thus minimising the maintenance such as scraping, sanding, painting or staining, as required by wood, iron, steel or brick railings. The quality of powder coating is assessed by salt spray resistance and when available from standard companies does not peel, crack or blister.

These kind of railings have now been developed to provide a variety of choices and are pedestal mounted, flat base mounted, and with continuous top caps. The heights of the railings can be as per user requirement.

Aluminium railings offer the protection and attractiveness of traditional wooden, iron or cement railings without the maintenance and upkeep.
