A Brief History Of Men's Bikini Style And Design
Looking back at our history, men usually jumped into the water either in their underwear
that was a one piece top and bottom or even in their birthday suit.
Men usually took part in leisure activities enjoying the beach and the water regardless of what they had worn. In fact, the earliest version of the men's bathing suit only resembled a one piece skivvies. Today, men's swim suit versions have developed and many men tend to invest on fashionable suits for their swimming expeditions.
In the year 1917, the regulations of swimming that had been made, strongly stipulated that swimming suits included a skirt that was worn outside the trunks. One of the options of the swim suits was a flannel like knee pants which had a vest front that was created to have armholes and closed leggings.
Over time, the swim suits evolved with the use of synthetic rubber yarn that was fondly known as Latex. This revolution was seen in the 1930s. The athletic supports are usually sewn on to the trunks ,thus providing a comfortable yet trim appearance to the men. Showing the chest in public was not acceptable for the swim suits of men until 1933.
This marked the year when the swim suits were made in a convertible style of suit. This suit consisted of a removable top and gave the men an option to remove the top. However, some of the beaches in America would still not accept this suit and instead made arrests to the men who removed their tops while swimming.
Soon enough, a company teamed up to promote swim suits that were acceptable. The swim suits were made in special cuts around the arms on tank tops and would also show off the waist. This creation was the first pair of a bathing trunk, a line that was launched in France while the American people still demanded swim suits that had tops that were non removable.
After that, shorts that were also known as swim suits finally became the common swim wear for men in the 1940s. During the 1950s, the terry lined cabana sets became popular after the rule in America was lifted and men were allowed to wear topless suits while swimming. Prints that had a Hawaiian origin were common. In fact, those prints still remain even today. The vinyl plastics and cut off shorts and even their briefs were acceptable swim suits for the men soon after during the periods from 1960 to 1980.
In the 1990s, the Calvin Klein line of fashion released the boxer brief that was adopted by the athletic swim wear. Some of the fashion trends in the recent years have been adopted from Brazil to cater to the men's swim suits.
