A Brief History Of Team Building And What It Can Do For You
Unless you have spent the last few decades under a rock then you will probably already
be well aware of the term team building in association with work around the office. It has certainly been the buzz word on most managers' lips when it comes to the planning and preparation of the overall team structure. But what you may not know is that a lot of what we now consider common office practises actually originated back in the 1920's when Sigmund Freud first looked into the positive effects of working in a group dynamic.
However, if you are attempting to find how what Freud found out back in the 1920's links into what we do today, then you may struggle to find a definitive link. It was back in the 1980's and early 1990's that American firms decided to integrate team building exercises into employee training to initiate a stronger and more effective bond between their employees.
At the time there was a number of industry giants outside of America that ridiculed and berated the training that was taking place, but when the results of improved employee moral were released it started to spread to other regions of the world. The United Kingdom was one of the first external countries to be infected by the motivation bug. This generally occurred in companies where American firms had a share in the company.
In the new millennium most companies with the United Kingdom perform some form of team building or team bonding event to help establish a greater spirit of working between co-workers.
Of course this isn't the only reason that managers choose to invest in a series of team building or team work assignments. Through performing these exercises correctly you can help your employees to develop their own personal skill-set and make them more of a valuable commodity to the company. These positive aspects include improved communication, improved self esteem and confidence and it may even help you to identify who are the natural born leaders and trail blazers in your work force.
If you think that your team could benefit from taking part in a team building event in 2010, then it would be worth contacting a professional organisation who will be able to take charge of all the planning aspects of the event. Organising your own team building event can be the road to disaster. You wouldn't attempt to build your own car, nor would you attempt to design, build and construct your own clothing. You leave that to the professions because you know that they know best. So if you want to help your team to flourish in 2010, then put your faith in the company with years of experience helping teams develop strong and positive bonds.
