A Brief Overview Of Hilton Worldwide Group
It all started back in 1919 when its charismatic founder Conrad Hilton opened The Mobley Hotel in Cisco, Texas
. By 1943 it had become the first coast-to-coast hotel chain in the USA and by 1954 it had grown to such a degree that it was able to pull off the world's most expensive real estate transaction at that time when it acquired The Hotels Statler Company for a whopping $111,000,000. Nowadays Hilton Worldwide is a truly global hospitality company. Owned by the private equity firm, The Blackstone Group, the Hilton Brand incorporates 3,897 hotels in 91 countries. Offering over 642,000 rooms Hilton Worldwide (which used to be known as the Hilton Hotels Corporation) is ranked by Forbes as the 38th largest private company in the United States.
Recently relocated to Tysons Corner, Virginia (for 40 years, until 2009 its headquarters were more famously in Beverly Hills, California), the company either owns, manages and/or franchises some of the worlds most popular and iconic hotel brands. These include:
-Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts
-Conrad Hotels & Resorts
-Hilton Hotels & Resorts
-DoubleTree by Hilton
-Embassy Suites Hotels
-Hilton Garden Inn
-Hampton Inn
-Hampton Inn & Suites
-Homewood Suites by Hilton
-Home2 Suites by Hilton
-Hilton Grand Vacations
Amongst the companys most famous hotels are the Waldorf Astoria New York and The Beverly Hills Hilton. But over the years a number of other Hilton Hotels have found themselves thrust into the media spotlight. For instance in 1949, one Ramon Monchito Marrero ensured the Caribe Hilton Hotel's Beachcomber Bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico would forever go down in folklore as the birthplace of the Pia Colada. Likewise in 1969, between March 25 and March 31, John Lennon and Yoko Ono made Room 902 of the Amsterdam Hilton forever famous as the venue of their first Bed-In for Peace. Four years later, on April 3, 1973, Martin Cooper made the world's first public handheld cellular phone call when he rang Joel S. Engel at the New York Hilton with a 2 pound Motorola DynaTAC phone. More recently in July 2012, daredevil Jay Cochrane walked across a tightrope from the Skylon Tower to the top of the Hilton Hotel in Niagara Falls.
Apart from offering a good standard of accommodation and service at a price that represents excellent value for money a lot of the Hiltons success in recent times has continued on the back of its Hilton Honors guest loyalty program. One of the largest programmes of its type, with well over 30 million members, the programme has partnerships with most major airlines allowing guests to accrue points for not just staying in any of the Hilton brand of hotels but also for their air miles they covered to get to them too.
