Whatever situation the strobe light is used there is no mistaking it as a warning. We all recognize the slowly rotating strobe as an indicator of some kind of emergency.

They are used in clubs for lighting effects and they are great used with different colors and smoke to create that heavy atmosphere for dancing. The strobe light is used on construction vehicles and there are portable strobe light units that can be kept in a vehicle to be used in case of emergency. There are some medical personnel that would need such a strobe light such as doctors or specialist nurses on call.

In general, a strobe light is used along with a siren and other emergency vehicle lighting. This may seem excessive but there really can't be too much lighting on an emergency vehicle. They need to be seen in all light conditions from total darkness to very bright sunlight. The vehicles also need to be seen in all weather conditions from good to very bad with poor visibility. The motion of a strobe light makes it highly visible which is especially good on stationary vehicles.

LED strobe light units are now more popular as they are virtually maintenance free, cause relatively little drain on vehicle battery life and they are very reliable. Long gone are the days when any emergency vehicle had a single rotating strobe atop the vehicle. The main thing about emergency lighting on first response vehicles is it keeps the personnel and us safe. We know when the emergency vehicle is approaching or is stationary ahead, and this serves to protect the people at the scene and ourselves.
