The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet is a car that's much more than a way to get from point A to point B
. This deliciously styled and meticulously engineered soft top really tells you that you're living the dream ... it's the car that creates those 'end of movie, credits roll' moments that we want to catch and save in our memories forever.
Still, no matter how much this vehicle represents 'happiness', you won't want to be slapping down a checkbook at your Hong Kong five star auto sales without doing your research. Today we give you a buyer's guide to the E-Class Cabriolet.
E-Class Cabriolet - The Specs
This Hong Kong luxury sports car has some pretty impressive specs. You're looking at a car with:
- Dimensions: 470cm long, 178 cm wide, 140 cm high
- Drag coefficient: 0.25
- Engine options: These vary according to the country of release; worldwide options are available including BlueEFFICIENCY engines, seven different kilowatt/horsepower configurations in Europe and 2 in the US. European buyers choices range from 125 kW, 170 hp to 285kW, 387 hp.
- Transmission: 5-speed auto or 7-speed auto
- Economy: From 5.6L per 100km to 11L per 100km
- Safety: There are sizeable dual rollover bars, seven airbags across the entire vehicle, crash responsive front head restraints and tilt sensor included as standard on all E-Class Hong Kong luxury sports cars.
- Roof: Acoustic soft top as standard, thickness 23.5mm. Time to close - 20 seconds.
Not all of the E-Class's fabulous features can be explained in a single number, though. It's billed as a car for all four seasons - helping to open up the market to include those that prefer not to own different cars for different times of year, with all the associated extra storage and maintenance costs.
The AIRSCARF feature is a neck-level heating system that helps keep passengers comfy with the top down as the weather is changing; and the acoustic soft-top is more than just a cover to keep rain out. It's only 23.5mm thick, but creates an extremely quiet and warm interior throughout all seasons.
The AIRCAP feature on these Hong Kong luxury automobiles is perhaps one of the most important, a system that reduces turbulence and noise for both front and rear passengers with the top down, as well as helping create an impressive coefficient of drag figure of 0.25.
Reviews: What They Say About the Cabriolet
Mercedes' own press release about the launch of the Cabriolet is many, many pages long ... and in language so flowery it can be a little difficult to decipher! However, the reviewers generally agree with the enthusiasm of both the manufacturer and Hong Kong luxury sports car dealers, saying things like:
Autoblog: "Modern topless numbers like this 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet give lie to the idea that convertibles make lousy year-round companions"
Autmobilemag: "With Airscarf, Aircap, heated seats set to the highest of their three positions, and the side windows up, heck, you could drive the E-class Cabriolet in relative comfort at any temperature above freezing as long as there was no precipitation"
Carsguide: "In the V8 fat torque curve means that maximum attack is never too far away and the ability to dump a couple of ratios quickly gives the Cabriolet a lightness of being that belies its rather hefty 1840kg kerb weight"
As of mid-2010, around 300,000 models have been delivered worldwide - creating an exclusive and dedicated club of drivers enjoying the intuitive and very sexy feel of these Hong Kong luxury autos year-round.
