A Californian's Guide To Choosing A Hilo, Hawaii Hotel
A Californian's Guide To Choosing A Hilo, Hawaii Hotel
It looks like more Californians will be booking hotels in Hawaii come June 9, 2011. This summer, Continental Airlines will become the first major carrier to offer daily nonstop flights from the U.S. Mainland to Hilo, Hawaii in over 25 years. The airline announced there would be daily nonstop service between Los Angeles and Hilo, as well as weekly flights between San Francisco and Hilo. The Hawaii Tourism Authority predicts this will bring 40,000 more visitors to Big Island Hawaii hotels each year.
"Hilo has demonstrated its value as a premier visitor destination with nearby Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the annual Merrie Monarch Hula Festival as featured attractions," said Big Island Mayor Billy Kenoi. "We believe that once visitors discover Hilo, they will want to return again and again."
There are several points to consider as Californians look for the best hotel in Hilo, Hawaii. First is naturally location. There are several hotels in Hawaii situated along the scenic Banyan Drive, which is not only five minutes from Hilo International Airport but is also conveniently located to all historic downtown attractions, beaches, the zoo, waterfalls, museums, theatres, and the botanical gardens. It's also just a 45-minute drive to the Volcanoes National Park from here. Unfortunately, accommodations are very sparse closer to the volcanoes, so really, Hilo Hawaii hotels are your best bet.
Another point to consider when choosing the best hotel in Hilo, Hawaii is the type of rooms offered. Why come all this way to stay inside a stuffy little box? Since you're in breathtaking Hawaii, you'll naturally want a wondrous view of the island. Look for a hotel offering ocean or garden views, which truly showcase the best of Big Island. Through the large windows of the best Hilo Hawaii hotels, you'll be able to see volcanic peaks, unique foliage, gently swaying palms, black sandy beaches and ocean waters stretching for miles and miles. Unlike California, you can find this caliber of room for bargain bin prices.
Thirdly, you'll want a Hawaii hotel where you can really eat! Some hotels in Hilo, Hawaii leave you with little more than a child-size box of Frosted Flakes and a prepackaged muffin to start your adventurous day. On the other hand, imagine starting your day with pancakes, waffles, French toast, crispy bacon, plump sausage links, yogurt, danishes, scrambled eggs, golden hash browns and tropical fresh fruit grown locally. You'll want to find a Hilo Hawaii hotel that not only offers on-site dining, but that is within walking distance to local restaurants serving Japanese, Pacific Rim, Hawaiian, and Continental cuisine.
You needn't go broke staying in a Hilo Hawaii hotel. There are many options that meet these criteria and still offer affordable rates. Even though Hilo is the largest town on Big Island, the vibe is still historic and quaint as opposed to more touristy and expensive like Lahaina or Honolulu.
