A Change In Perspective

One day, when I was on a train going home, my phone suddenly rang

. It was a usual thing to me, nothing extraordinary about having a call in such a crowded place, many people experience that. However, to my surprise, a lot of people were staring at me and at the same time, I saw some who laughed at me to the point of humiliation. Yes, I won't forget that. After noticing them, I immediately answered my phone.

After I reached my destination, I got off wondering what I had probably done wrong or funny that made those people so amused. I traced the things that happened inside the train. Well, I was just standing because there were no more seats available. I was carrying a bag on my shoulder and a plastic bottle on my other hand (I"m sure there was nothing funny about that). Also, I was listening to my mp3 player. I remembered singing a few lines from the song "Iris". Did they overhear that? Or it was too loud and sounded really funny? Well maybe, but I think it was not a sound reason for them to make me feel that way.

Then, I finally made a conclusion after I recalled having a phone call inside the train. Of course my phone rang and everybody heard it. It"s my ringtone that caught everybody"s attention. My ringtone is actually a recorded sound from a moaning girl when she"s having the "thing"; of course we know that "thing" already, no more elaboration. I wasn"t able to turn it off after I showed it to my officemates and brag about it. It was really embarrassing and I regret having that experience. Having to think in a deeper sense, it was some sort of "karma" I think, because having that ringtone is a way of exploiting women and making fun of their privacy and dignity,

After realizing what happened, I finally made a choice of changing my ring tones and of course, deleting the nasty old ones. I downloaded free ringtones from different sites that offer the service. I chose to have songs as my tone from my favorite bands rather than having obscene and scandalous one. With these ringtones, I"m sure I will not experience having humiliated in public anymore.

This experience taught me a lesson that I will never forget. So now, whenever I am in public places I am confident that I will not be experiencing the same thing again. Ringtones and other stuff might be simple things to think about but they might have an impact that you will never forget. Remember, many things in life can be avoided if we really want it.
