A Cheap Used Honda Could Come Back To Haunt You
According to car dealers the recession is meant to last another couple of years - for the car market at least
. Despite a pick of sales fuelled by the government's scrappage scheme, the long term outlook remains uncertain. Dealers are preparing themselves for some challenging times ahead. However, what is bad news for some is good for others. The second hand car market could be in for a boost with some good prices available on some excellent models. But which is best? Should you go with a used Honda, Lexus, BMW or perhaps go American with a good old fashioned Ford. Whatever choice you make it's incredible important that you do your research and take your time before committing to a purchase.
The market has taken a couple of hits in the last couple of months. First the return of the full 17.5 per cent VAT rate and second the end of the scrappage scheme. They knew it was coming, but it will still have an impact and many dealers fear it could mean the continuation of the recession for another two years in their industry.
So, with budgets tightening, what's available on the second hand market. Let's start with an old warhorse of the Japanese motoring empire - Honda.
You can get a used Honda for a reasonable price. A quick and very un scientific search on Autotrader reveals prices as low as 300 pounds. Okay you'd have to be as brave as mad leaping Jo McBrave to buy one, let alone drive in it, but it gives you an idea what's available. Even so at this price there are some hidden gems and you may well get some mileage out of them before they go bang.
However, for real assurance you're best off going for a used Honda from a recognised dealership. Prices might be a little more expensive, but at least you'll be safe in the knowledge that you're driving away with something worthwhile.
If you're looking for real performance you might try going with a BMW or perhaps an Audi. These have relatively new models which have recently become available on the second hand market so it's well worth checking these out to see what you can get.
Whether you're looking for a used Honda, BMW, Lexus or indeed any other make, you should always follow a few basic principals when buying. The eBay generation has warped the methods by which we shop around for second hand cars these days. However, you should always do your research and make sure the car you're buying is fit for purpose. If you don't you'll come to regret it sooner rather than later.
