A Chlorine Shower Filter: Without One, You Are Showering In Bleach
Investing in a chlorine shower filter may be one of the single most important things you can do for your health
. Showering in chlorinated water can affect your entire body, with effects adding up over time that you do not even notice while it is happening. There is a lot you should know about the effects of bathing in chlorine.
Very few people consider tap water as something to drink. The smell and taste is overwhelmingly of chlorine, there is so much added to kill bacteria. To drink a glass of chlorinated tap water is almost like drinking a glass of bleach that has been diluted.
But when it comes to showering, most people jump into the tap water without thinking twice. Yet, chlorine turns to gas at a lower temperature than the water. So we are absorbing and breathing in a higher concentration of chlorine to water.
Our pores open up in the heat when we take a hot shower. And all that chlorine gets absorbed into the pores of our skin and into our blood. The toxic gas is breathed into the lungs. All in all, more chlorine gets into your body through showering than you could absorb through actually drinking the tap water. Studies have confirmed that to shower in chlorinated water is toxic and there are many potential health risks as a result.
There are a variety of different types of chlorine shower filters on the market. The old style filter is usually charcoal based. It filters out some of the chlorine but is generally unable to filter out all of it. It can also become a breeding ground for bacteria which will then become part of your shower water.
There is a new technology out on the market is called KDF and it is a media that filters out several elements including chlorine and heavy metals. It does this by using ionic charge to remove the chlorine from the water. It is able to remove approximately 99% of the chlorine. Additionally, bacteria cannot form in this media.
Whichever type of filter you choose, it will probably have filters that need to be replaced. How often you will need to do this will depend on how many people use the shower, how long they take showers for and how often. You will know when it is time to replace your filter when you can start smelling the chlorine again.
Other things to consider when purchasing a shower filters it the physical design. Many shower filters are attached at the end of the shower pipe, so that there is less room underneath the shower head. If you are very tall, or your shower head is already low, this could present some problems. Other units have the filter unit above or to the side so that you do not lose headroom underneath it.
You may have to take a bit of time to go through the various types of chlorine shower filters available on the market. However, you will find one that meets your needs. Make your decision not just on design or price but on effectiveness. For the benefit of your health, the effectiveness is without question the most important consideration.
