How often you will need to do this will depend on how many people use the shower, how long they take showers for and how often. You will know when it is time to replace your filter when you can start smelling the chlorine again.

Other things to consider when purchasing a shower filters it the physical design. Many shower filters are attached at the end of the shower pipe, so that there is less room underneath the shower head. If you are very tall, or your shower head is already low, this could present some problems. Other units have the filter unit above or to the side so that you do not lose headroom underneath it.
