A Clean Bill Of Health How A Dust Extraction System Can Save More Than Just Money

Most industrial processes give off considerable quantities of effluent that is

, solid or liquid waste directly resulting from whatever machining or catalysing technique is being used. Were all familiar with gas waste, which takes the form of fumes and exhaust, is usually odorous and easy to detect, and is removed through industrial ventilation systems and extraction booths. The health risks caused by gaseous waste are well recognised, too: hence the use of high powered extractors to get rid of it. What about dust, though? Dust extraction systems, of course, exist for every industrial process: but how necessary, really, are they?

Lets start with the worker the operator and move out from him, or her. Workers are the most important asset one has: without them, nothing gets done. Even in an age of computers a company still needs actual people to press switches: and, where skilled processes are concerned, a machinist is always required to guide and prompt even the most intelligent artificial labourer. Where that machine expels dust, the human operator needs to be protected; where the machine expels a lot of dust, no mask is going to be enough to do the job. Only a dust extraction system guarantee that these sometimes lethal particles will be successfully removed from the air and so fail to enter the mouth, nose, eyes and ears of the workers.

Thats immediate worker health taken care of here, really, were talking about extracting the major volume of exhaust dust at source. What about residual particles, though? Dust, like gas, dissipates quickly, propagating itself through air in thinner and thinner concentrations until, unseen, it starts settling on machine parts, in mouths, in noses and lungs. This is the real dangerous stuff: the dust that cant be seen cant be avoided. Anyone can get out of the way of a dust cloud, or turn on a scrubber to get rid of it. But when that dust cant be seen? Well, then theres a problem that only top quality dust extraction systems can solve. Which means factories without good dust extractors are leaving themselves and their workers liable to the damage unseen dust particles can cause.

A modern dust extraction system employ wet filters, which turn this airborne dust into a sludge that can be easily collected and disposed of. Without wet filtration, fine dust particles end up coating the expensive working surfaces of machines and the equally valuable working surfaces of people.

Without people, and without machines, there can be no industry. Without good modern dust extraction systems there will be eventually no working machines. The math is simple enough; the answer plain. Are dust extractors necessary? You bet your life they are.
