A Closer Look At The Brilliant Htc Gratia
HTC have taken a step back from competing right at the top end of the smartphone table
, this time focusing their efforts on a mid ranged, compact phone in the shape of the new Gratia. This model strikes a perfect balance of style, size and functionality, and should prove a hit with those looking for a feature packed phone but not overly big in the size stakes.
The HTC Gratia sports a high quality screen, despite on paper it looking lower specification that the likes of the HTC HD7. The main reason for this slight drop is that the Gratia does not need it. With just a 3.2" screen, anything higher than the HVGA 320 x 480 that the phone offers would seem a waste. In doing this not only does it keep the size of the phone compact, but also keeps the cost well within that mid range bracket. The display can offer up to 256k colours, so you can be assured of vivid and colourful images and graphics. Auto rotation is enabled thanks to an accelerometer chip, whilst a proximity sensor not only locks the screen, but allows you to use the clever flip to mute feature. Looking around the phone and you will find a selection of useful ports and buttons. A micro USB and a 3.5mm headphone jack both feature, the latter being especially useful if you wish to add your own headphones to the phone for music playback. The four familiar Android buttons are situated beneath the screen, which is where you will also find HTC's excellent optical trackpad. Although you will use the touchscreen for most navigation, the very responsive trackpad is great when you require a little precision, for example when editing text.
Like previous models within the range, the HTC Gratia utilises the brands excellent Sense user interface to offer vibrant and intuitive user controls, alongside the excellent 2.2 Android OS that the phone runs. Rather than ploughing through multiple home screens to find what you desire, the excellent leap view gives you a neat overview of all screen available to you, allowing you to simply select the one you need. Social Networking fans will love the interface, it offers great synchronisation with the phones contact list. When looking up a friend, alongside their regular details you can now read their Twitter and Facebook updates as well as view their photos. Excellent features like this thankfully don't place to much strain on the 1200mAh battery, with users typically expecting nearly 6 hours of talktime and 400 hours in standby.
The Gratia from HTC takes the familiar Android experience and takes it in a different direction from models such as the Desire HD. Rather than focusing on size, they have packed everything into a smaller and more desirable chassis, which will keep fans of fashion phones as well as smartphone lovers satisfied.
