A Closer Look At The Lg Pop

, ever more powerful smartphone, LG have done well to take a step back and produce a compact, feature packed touch screen for the lower end of the price spectrum, this phone is affectionately called the LG Pop.

The compactness is really the key to the unit. To date it is the smallest phone to incorporate a 3" touchscreen. This screen displays a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. Thanks to great colour reproduction (over 256 thousand can be displayed), images look really good on the pop, whether it be an MP4 video playback or simply viewing the phones clever menu system. Weighing a tiny 87 grammes and measuring 97.8 x 49.5 x 11.2 mm, part of the key to the overall lack of bulk is the way the manufacturer has cleverly doubled up on the use of what few physical buttons there are. For example the power switch doubles as the lock button, the camera button doubles up as an app overview button.

Battery life of the LG Pop is fairly impressive thanks to a lack of really draining applications. The user can realistically expect to achieve 360 hours standby or 3.6 hours talktime from the 900mAh. Although the handset does lack the much sought after WiFi connection and even 3G, internet connection is covered by virtue of EDGE and GPRS compatibility. Bluetooth version 2.1 is also featured, resulting in the easy transfer of data or connection to a peripheral device.

The LG Pop's user interface is an A Class system, resulting in very simple navigation for the user and also clear and inviting looking menu systems. In terms of actually making a phone call, a point bizarrely overlooked on many handsets, the Pop performs superbly. Audio reproduction is crisp and clear, and a neat feature is that the screen automatically locks during a call in order to prevent accidental presses of the touchscreen buttons. Text messaging is also simple and easy to initiate. Predictive text is supported and the handsets built in accelerometer chip changes the keyboard layout to a qwerty type when the phone is held on its side. Both inputting systems are easy enough to use with plenty of room for your fingers on the keys.

LG have done a very good job with the Pop. The 3" screen is excellent, especially considering the overall size of the handset. Battery life is great and there is just enough features included to keep most phone fans happy.
