Taking a One-Day tour at Zaanse Schans
Just 20 minutes away from Amsterdam proper, Zaanse Schans is a great village to visit for those looking for a bygone era in Amsterdam and Dutch history. Here you find many charming trivialities that are telltale signs of the 17th century village that it was such as a cheese factory, a clog workshop and several working windmills, two of which allow visitors in, to provide a great picturesque view of their skyline. The cheese factory is a great place to go to as it gives out a quiet tour of how cheeses are made and even distributes samples for tourists. Getting there from Amsterdam is easy as you can just take a train going to Koog Zaandjik which takes one to the heart of the town, then its just a 10 minute hike going to Zaanse Schans, or one can also bike going there. Zaanse Schans is best kept as a one day trip and not an overnighter since they only have one accommodation available, the Hotel Sans Pareil.
