A Contractor's Guide To Selecting The Right Curb Inlet Filters For Any Storm Water Management Projec

When it comes to starting work on a new site, every contractor knows that providing

storm inlet protection is one of the first things that must be done. Each site is unique, and different situations call for different storm and curbinlet filters.

Fortunately, there are storm inlet protection products available for every situation, and as long as you get yours from a reputable, knowledgeable company, you can expect excellent performance and value, along with very vital regulation compliance.

For Storm Grates in Streets and Fields

Two reliable storm water inlet filters exist for grates in roads and fields: storm grate bags and storm grate sacks. Storm grate bags are made of a heavy duty porous material and completely encase storm grates to protect the inlets below them. As water passes through a bag, sediment and other pollutants are trapped inside of it and securely held for safe disposal.

Bags are made to fit any shape or size grate. Installing them can be done in minutes, and maintenance is nearly as quick.

After each rainfall, simply sweep away sediment and debris from the bag's surface and around its vicinity. When sediment accumulates inside the bag, remove it from the grate, clean out the sediment, and reinstall it.

The storm> is an extremely strong yet affordable storm inlet filter that features an open top design. Straps are used to fasten the sack to a storm grate, while the body of the sack hangs beneath it.

As water flows through the grate into the sack, the sack's porous material allows it to slowly seep through to the inlet. Sediment and debris, however, remain trapped until disposed of properly.

Sacks can be installed quickly and can be removed from grates, cleaned and reinstalled for continued cost-saving use. Both bags and sacks can be used with oil absorbent filters inside, which skim oil from water as it flows through the containment system. These oil filters allow storm grate bags and sacks to perform double duty, adding to their value and usefulness on the job site.

For Storm Grates in Fields

The pop-up bag is an ingenious addition to the curbinlet protection market that provides a double line of defense against sediment and debris. Storm water is whisked away from the bag by its unique stand-up design, and any water that does make it into the unit is filtered through the bag's bottom, which completely encases the grate.

The bag pops up and is ready for use in seconds, and its domed design makes it quick and easy to clean. After each rainfall, simply remove accumulated sediment and debris from the panels and away from the vicinity. Sediment from inside the bag should be removed as needed.

The pop-up bag is easily spotted by machine operators in the field, and it can be used with oil absorbents to make it an even greater value.

For Curb and Median Inlets Without Grates

Curb inlet filters androlls are used at curb and median inlets that don't have storm grates. This simple inlet protection filter sits flush against the curb or median, blocking the inlet so that water can slowly seep through its porous material, but sediment cannot.

The best rolls in the business conform to the shape of any curb or median, making it quick and easy to get an impermeable fit. When used correctly, they reduce or completely eliminate the need to flush or clean inlets, saving contractors valuable time and money. Optional oil absorbents also can be used with the roll to filter oil away from storm water as it seeps through.

Curb inlet filter roll maintenance is as easy as it gets. After each rainfall, just remove all sediment and debris from the roll and its vicinity, and its ready to go to work again. If an oil absorbent filter has been used with it, simply remove and replace it when it is near saturation.

For Curb and Gutter Inlets With Grates

If curb and gutter inlets with grates are your challenge, you can enjoy the best of both worlds in inlet protection. Curb> pair a storm grate bag with a curb inlet roll for a double-layered defense against sediment and other pollutants.

This bag comes in many sizes to fit any curb and gutter inlet, and the roll portion of the unit quickly conforms to the shape of the curb. Oil absorbent filters can be used in the bag to soak up oil from water before it enters the inlet, and when this product is used properly, it reduces or eliminates the need to flush or clean inlets.

Curb inlet filter bags are easy to install and maintain. Just sweep debris and sediment away from their surfaces and vicinities after each storm, and empty the bags when sediment accumulates inside of them.

The very popular curb inlet filter sack is a combination curb inlet roll and storm grate sack, featuring a roll on top and a porous, sediment-trapping sack that hangs below an inlet grate. The sack fits any size curb and gutter inlet, and the roll conforms to the shape of the curb it rests against, forming a tough barrier against wayward sediment and debris.

The open-top design of the unit allows for quick visual inspections, and lifting straps make it easy to install, remove for maintenance and reinstall. Optional oil absorbing filters should be replaced when they near saturation, but the unit itself can be used time and time again. Curb inlet sacks reduce the need to flush or clean inlets, saving contractors valuable time and money.

Have an inlet protection need you don't see covered here? Call a professional. Any company specializing in storm inlet protection products should be able to solve your dilemma while helping you cut costs, work more efficiently and stay regulation-compliant.
