A Death Outside Of Chicago Is Tragic Warning Of The Dangers Of Domestic Violence

No one ever thinks it could happen. If it does start to happen, some people think they can live with it or that it will not get any worse. However, the tragic murder of a woman about an hour outside of Chicago has served as a tragic reminder that domestic violence does occur, and that it only gets worse if not confronted. The incident occurred in the unincorporated community of Antioch nearly 60 miles from Chicago. When police responded to a call regarding a domestic dispute, they found the woman in a bedroom. She was unresponsive. Lifesaving measures were implemented, but the woman later died at the hospital. According to reports, the woman had called her 19-year-old daughter after the woman had gotten into a fight with the girl's father. The girl said that when she got to the house, her mother had a black eye. That fact apparently caused physical contact between the father and the daughter which resulted in the daughter leaving the house and going to the garage. While in the garage, the daughter said she heard suspicious noises coming from inside the home. When she went back in to check on her mother, she found her unresponsive.

The girl claims that this is not the first time that she and her mother had been the victim of domestic violence. According to the girl, it had been an ongoing pattern of behavior. The girl"s father had fled the scene on foot once the girl re-entered the home, but police were able to apprehend him before night's end.

Of course, one wonders how differently the story might have ended if, instead of allowing for the violence to continue, the woman had, at some point, worked with a lawyer to bring it to an end and to seek safety for herself and her child.
