A Decade of eBay Gives Birth to Change with the Pay-Per-Bid Auction

A Decade of eBay Gives Birth to Change with the Pay-Per-Bid Auction

There once was a time where in order to run a business you needed a brick and mortar storefront. Whether you were small time or large scale you still had a minimum investment to deal with. Once the internet gained popularity in the common home, people began selling goods on their own websites but the most popular method to get items sold were on the major auction sites specifically eBay.

eBay changed the way we do business online and it held the title as the primary contender for online sales. It became the #1 method for entrepreneurs to launch a business and was the focal point of many start-ups. Unfortunately, as the years have worn on, there have been other sites that began to stand up against the might of eBay. A range of factors have made the traffic slowly ebb away from eBay to other sites; convenience, site attraction, profit, the cost of posting items, payment methods, etc.

The bohemian alternatives to eBay are gaining steam, and of special note are the pay-per-bid auctions where sellers are able to make far more than they could on eBay. The unfortunate side of the common eBay auction is that many items go for less than retail but that means the auction owner sells the item for less than retail.

The benefit of the pay-per-bid auctions is that the cost of all those bids being put into the auction goes to the seller. Not only are they often making retail on the goods they're posting but in some cases they're making more. That certainly covers the cost of production and shipping with a tidy profit to tuck away for future business.

There are also many businesses who don't actually stock any real inventory. What they do use are wholesale drop ship services in order to sell their items online. For an individual using a pay-per-bid auction site that means far higher profits for those who don't utilize any inventory.

Change is upon us, and the changes that are occurring on eBay are creating a swell of competition. In the world of doing business and making sales, competition is always a bonus to the people who stand to make a profit. The changes are forcing people to seek other marketplaces to sell their goods, which is why there has been such a massive swell of products to sites like Exceet.com on pay-per-bid auctions.

This type of mass exodus is also a huge bonus for people that are handling their shopping online. With eBay, discounts were available on goods that we all want even the hot items. Unfortunately those discounts didn't always come in where we wanted them and in some instances only saved us a few bucks off the retail price. With pay-per-bid auctions and the move of many sellers to these types of sites there is a greater opportunity to get hotter items and the more popular goods (like electronics) at much lower prices.

EBay certainly set the standard for how fairness and the online auction was handled, and they've paved the way for eCommerce to take hold from the comfort of a hundred thousand living rooms. Now, other competitors are embracing the model and creating a batter alternative one that delivers on the idea of the true discount. Pay-per-bid auctions are just the beginning.
