A Detailed Introduction Of Bathtubs

Bathtubs are plumbing fixtures that are used for bathing

. They are fixed in the washrooms, sometimes as the only fixture while in some cases showers are also fixed near them. Different materials are used for making these tubs. Fiber glass, acrylic, steel and cast iron coated with enamel etc. Are the common materials that are used to make the bathtubs.

Few years back these bathtubs could be seen rarely but now they are affordable. They can be used for relaxation, hydro therapy and unwinding of the aching limbs and itchy skin.

One can plan a long relaxing bath in the bath tub with beautiful music on and candles lit. The water in the tub can be made fragrant by throwing rose petals in the water. Two to three tablespoons of salt can also be added to make the bath more relaxing as it soothes the skin.

Copper water pipes from 3300BC were found during the excavation process at the sites of Indus valley civilization. A 5 foot tub made of pottery was found at Isle of Crete that might be considered as the forefather of the bathtubs. Roman Empire is considered the first that contributed in developing the concept of personal hygiene and for that matter personalized bathrooms were encouraged that were usually made of marble.

Much emphasis was given to hygienic living conditions in Rome as a result of which healthy habits especially regular bathing was encouraged among the common folks. Importance was given to personalized bathing and cleaning places and marble was used to make bathing corners. Perfumes were made in France first and were extensively used by the people. After their making, people started applying lots of fragrances to veil the body odors and it was believed that the water could infect the body by the germs present in it. Cast iron tubs were introduced in 18th century but the frequent use of the tubs started after First World War.

There are basically two styles of tubs. Western styles tubs and eastern style tubs. Long and shallow tubs are the western ones while the eastern are deep and short. The tubs are available in many colors. In the beginning they were made just in white color but now these tubs are available in almost all the colors. So if one wants a color theme for the bathroom, it is easy to get a toilet, sink, tub and tiles in the same color.

Tubs have four general categories that in turn have sub categories. The most commonly installed category is built-in tubs. Then there are special tubs that are specifically used by people with special needs. Three sub categories are included in the category of special tubs. They include the massage tubs, whirlpool and the walk-in tubs. Then there are the general categories of free standing and soaking tubs. The soaking tubs are best suited for relaxation.

One should select the tub that is in accordance with the needs and requirements of the people who will use it. The bathtubs for the home should be selected according to the choice of the person in whose bathroom it will be installed.
