A Dialogue about Your Career as a Professional Athlete
A Dialogue about Your Career as a Professional Athlete
Many youngsters have an inclination towards sports in terms of a dream career in their teens, but only few of them manage to come as far as being a professional athlete. Not only does it require talent, but persistence laden consistency as well to be successful in being an athlete.
With a lucrative career which provides a combination of passion, fitness, fame and a very good employment outlook, being a professional athlete is a wonderful step in your career. With a median income of around 75,000 $ (as of December, 2010), the life of a professional athlete may appear all goody-goody, but the field has its share of stress as well. A professional athlete is required (and expected as well) to maintain a perfect balance of a positive mental strength and physical fitness to go with it.
Life Cycle
The life cycle of a professional athlete is a period when he is actively performing his duties as an individual (in individual sports disciplines) or a part of a team (with respect to team sports). This life cycle is distributed over 2 periods which prop every year: regular season and non-regular season.
Regular seasons may require an athlete to train for almost 40 to 45 hours a week plus attending team meetings for strategy making, workshops, watching video clips about the opponents etc.
Career Profiles
Sports disciplines of baseball, basketball, track & field events, football, tennis, golfers, hockey, cricket, badminton, driving and for that matter, any sport which generates a legal income provides opportunities for professional athletes to display their ability.
Post Retirement
As age is a detrimental factor in terms of fitness and capability, unlike other jobs, 40s (age) is considered an off-peak for a professional athlete. After a decent performance as an athlete, he or she can move towards being a coach, a trainer, a commentator or anything and everything related to the game he or she has played with. Many successful professional athletes are known to be involved with their own sports academy.
When all's said and done, fitness, mental strength and a positive attitude are the key requirements of being a good professional athlete.
