A Disciplined Approach To Acne

Everyone has different skin types: maybe normal

, dry, oily, or a combination. Out of all these, acne is most prevalent in oily skin since oily skin attracts more dirt and pollution to its surface- leading to the occurrence of pimples. The pilosebaceous unit in our epidermis consists of the hair shaft, the hair follicle, and the sebaceous gland which makes sebum. When you break out it is because this oil gland produces too much oil which feeds surface bacteria. Unchecked, this becomes a vicious cycle. The aggravated situation of pimples could further lead to acne vulgaris, which needs to be treated in time by following a strict skin care schedule.

Care should be taken by regular cleansing, toning and moisturizing. This is baseline (i.e. essential) treatment. This will help to prevent pimples and to have healthy, radiant skin. If this first step is not done properly and consistently then the appearance of skin will deteriorate. Treating acne requires a certain level of regimentation and tenacity. If you are not vigilant, it could further become a hard-hitting skin problem with irreversible acne scarring- causing psychological and emotional trauma. Hence we should maintain our skin to avoid acne and pimples.

The following are some tips to take care of oily skin:

Wash the face no more and no less than twice a day with the appropriate cleanser and cold water (to lighten pores). Do not wash more frequently because the body needs natural oil.

Use oil-free moisturizers (watery and light) and sunscreens with the advice from the dermatologist.

Continue using soap that is compatible for your skin. Make sure it is not harsh.

To keep the skin cool and fresh, wipe the skin with astringent soaked cotton wool.

Use oil free make up and opt for oil free facials. Use hypoallergenic and mineral makeup products.

Exfoliate skin so that moisture balance is maintained properly. Isolate scrubs to singular areas. Scrubbing all over will simply spread bacteria all over your face. Not good.

Use chilled cucumber slices or paste as a face pack.

Drink lots of water (seriously) and avoid fatty foods and dairy.
