A Discussion Of The Ulc Comparative Religion Course

I thought this class through the Universal Life Church was great

. It offers an even-handed view of all thefaiths and helps one to understand the core spiritually of all faiths. Many were known or slightly known to me, while others just fascinating, learning the history and customs of religions I barely knew existed, was the most pleasurable part of this class.

The evolution of the splintering of major religious groups into sub-groups was an enlightening part of the religions.I was amazed at how a lot of sects were began because of one person changing just a relatively small aspect of the basic belief.

Each lesson was written so that the religions were compared but not criticized. From history, evolution, customs, traditions and practices -- all was discussed in detail with just the appropriate amount of depth to peak the readers interest in learning more.

In addition to the deep details and the way the course made taking in such a large amount of information easy and interesting, I really liked the inclusion of the photos of locations and the small narratives about the religion being discussed. This made the static details of the beliefs come alive be seeing real accounts and stories from that faith which also had me looking forward to the next lesson each week. There was not anything that I would say I liked the least about the course. It exceeded my expectations and I certainly enjoyed the way it was researched, written and presented.

One of the biggest things I got out of the class was the knowledge that I was looking at quite a few religions with a very limited view. I was projecting a small amount of knowledge onto the entire group. Even though I know, as an active Christian, how things are very different from how the Christian Church started out. With the multiple splits and various denominations, I should have been more curious about whether other religions have similar histories so this class enlightened me greatly on some of my erroneous views.Just looking at Buddhism in particular -- I have worked with people who are followers of the Dalai Lama, so that was my entire view on Buddhism in general.I found it very interesting to see how Buddhism also had changed along with society, just as Christianity has over the centuries.I also had no idea that the Dalai Lama was not in charge of all active Buddhists. I gained insights that will assist me with dealing with individuals from different backgrounds. Itd be outstanding if this Comparative Religion class was offered in high school! I think that we all have a belief in something and the way we act on those beliefs is as personalized as we make it. Divine Spirit exists for each of us, our respect and praise is the same, just our ways of doing it are different.

I really dont see any parts of this ULC class that I didnt like. I think I've found a new passion! There were a lot of uncommon words that were grouped together throughout these discourses, and it made it hard to get an understanding of what was trying to be conveyed. It was frustrating initially, but it forced me to re-read several sections and slowed me down, which enhanced my comprehension. This course has been a perfect starting point for me, and has given me the core ideas on which to study different religions.
