. Surrounded by the mountains of Sulphur mountain, Mount Rundle Cascade Mountain and Mount Norquay. The town can be found between Calgary in the West and Lake Louise in the East. Lake Louise is the highest elevated town in Canada, with Banff being the second highest. If you are considering a Banff vacation you will not be disappointed as there are plenty of activities to keep you busy.

The towns history dates back to the 1880s when the railway was built through the area. Many visitors come to the resort from all over the world for the many attractions the town has to offer. The hot springs and the mountains attract many visitors year after year, the town is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Canada.

Sporting visitors find the area has much to offer, the mountains are ideal for skiing and mountain biking. For skiers there are two popular resorts, Ski Norquay and Sunshine Village. These resorts attract skiers and snowboarders of all levels of skill and fitness.

There are many hotels to choose from in the area, including the stunning Banff Springs hotel, which was built around 1888. It is believed that the hotel is home to a ghost. The hotel has a wonderful location, being set in the Rocky mountains. Most of the hotels in the area are situated near the railway line.

As well as the mountains in the area being suitable for the sporting activities, Sulphur Mountain also has a skywalk that takes visitors up to the Banff Upper Hot Springs, while enjoying the relaxing hot springs, visitors can take in the breathtaking views of Mount Rundle. Tunnel Mountain, also known as Sleeping Buffalo mountain, is located nearer to the centre of the resort and is perfect for tourists looking for a short hike as it take only around 30 minutes to reach the summit.

Many festivals are held during the year in the town, including the mountain film festival, world television festival and the Rocky mountain music festival. These festivals attract many tourists as well as being enjoyed by the local people.
