A Few Facts About Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu, a historical place in Peru, has been visited by many tourists because of its natural attraction

. Discoverers believe that Machu Picchu served as the training place for the virgins who worshipped the sun. An attraction known as the "Lost City of the Incas is located in the two peaks of Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu was literally abandoned for many years after the war between the Spaniards and the Inca tribe. In 1911, an American archaeologist, Hiram Bingham III, rediscovered the place with the help of a farmers son when he was searching for a different City in Cusco.

Bingham became famous with this discovery. He was funded by the National Geographic and Yale University to help him gather some facts about the place. Together with his team, he took many pictures and artifacts of the area. After that Machu Picchu become worldwide known.

Machu Picchu is considered a mysterious place and quite often raises questions. For example, how did a place like this exist in the mountains? It was believed that Pachacuti , the first Inca Imperial Ruler, was the one who built the place. He and his people left the area when Spaniards attacked Peru. Until now it was still hard to know the reason why they built the place and left it after a hundred years of inhabitation. However, Bingham believed that Machu Picchu was built for worshipping purposes, especially sixers. The buildings have a semicircular structure, known as the temple of the sun.

Later on, many were convinced that Machu Picchu was used to house artisans due to the discoveries of remains that prove the existence of potters and steel makers.

Machu Picchu has lots of reason to be visited. The views are spectacular, especially the Andes mountains. It's highly recommended to take machu picchu trips and to take the inca trail trek going there because the experience is such a great adventure!
