Cooking at home can help you to restrict the food budget to within your daily allowance for food. It also becomes possible to cook exactly the food that you want to have on the outing. And because you will be preparing or cooking it yourself, you know the food is clean and safe to eat.

Another advantage of DIY-ing your outing food is that you know precisely what you are eating since you bought and mixed the ingredients yourself. Additionally, you won't be paying that extra cash for having it cooked by other people who will sometimes re-use oil to cook another batch of fries. That, as we know, is not a safe food practice.

Get A Good Cooling Box

People usually go on family outings during the sunnier times of the year. That is why it makes sense to invest in a good cooling box. Just like everything else, there are cheap ones and expensive ones. It is always wise to avoid price extreme when buying unless you absolutely have to have the best. So for the average budget a medium-priced cooler will be enough. Make sure the insulation is strong enough to last and that the box itself can be sealed shut. You might want to cover the box with sun-reflector material to keep off the rays of the sun.

Storing bottles and cans in cooling box is no problem. It is when you need to put in vegetables and meats that you are cooking in the family outing site that you can run into problems about keeping the ingredients dry. In such cases, wrapping the ice in compactor bags will keep it from dripping into the box. Additionally, you may want to use two different kinds of ice. Dry ice on the outside and wet ice on the inside, directly next to the food ingredients. Dry ice keeps the wet ice frozen. However, it can give food ingredients a funny smell.

Get Thermoelectric Coolers/Heaters

There are devices which can both cool and heat your food. They are slightly more expensive than plain insulated containers because they have more functionality. These are what are known as thermoelectric coolers. They are powered by the car battery and can be plugged into the cigarette lighter socket.

If you regularly go on family outings to places where you have access to a DC power source, thermoelectric devices are good investments. You have much more flexibility in inventing the menu for the outing. You can both cool your drinks and heat food. You won't need to concern yourself about food spoiling because the left-overs can be heated and the kids won't know the difference.

You might need to plug the device into a dc outlet where you are having your family outing. They work much better when plugged into an electrical outlet.
