A Few Hints For Selecting Wedding Reception Music

Think about the key events in your reception and select the music for each of them first

. This includes the bride and groom's first dance, the family dance or father/daughter dance, music for cutting the cake, money dances, etc. Choose music that is meaningful to the participants, rather than choosing random pieces of popular music. This way, the importance of the memory will be heightened by its association with the music.

For the bride and groom's first dance, it is important to choose music that both will be able to dance to without feeling pressured. Unless both are skilled dancers, consider choosing something with a tempo that is no faster than walking pace, particularly if the bride will be wearing a dress that limits movement.

Choose music that will appeal to your guests. A successful reception means that as many of the guests are up and dancing as possible. To do this, you need a mix of music that will appeal as many of your friends and loved ones as possible. Younger participants may enjoy hip-hop, but mix in some slower ballads that may be familiar to parents, grandparents, etc. Knowing your audience is also helpful when selecting an overall genre of music. If the bride, groom and many attendees are country fans, you can tip the balance of music selections toward their tastes. Another consideration is whether or not to use line dances like the Macarena, Bunny Hop, the Hustle, etc. For some gatherings, playing these songs is a sure fire way to fill the dance floor, but for other groups the opposite is true. The newly married couple should choose music that is congruous with their tastes, but always be considerate of those who celebrate with them.

Listen to song lyrics, or look them up on line. Some songs are popular but really not suitable for a wedding reception. To keep the tone of your reception upbeat avoid break-up songs, songs about infidelity, songs that mourn the loss of a loved one or other selections that stray from the celebratory mood.

Finally, leverage the experience and knowledge of your wedding band or disc jockey. If you have carefully screened these performers before hiring them, you are paying for their expertise and experience. Ask advice of your DJ: Buffalo, NY, Rancho Cucamonga, CA or wherever he or she is located, the results should be the same. A reputable, professional DJ can help make your wedding reception a memorable and fun event for everyone who attends.
