While I am absolutely thrilled to plan my holiday getaway to my hometown

, I also feel anxiety over driving in the snow. Plus, my family and I have extensive plans for the Christmas season which will keep my very busy.

That is why I am so looking forward to this upcoming summer, during which I will be able to organize a much more relaxing getaway. Planning far in advance is the best way to maximize your best vacation, too, so listen up to these tips so that you have something to look forward to in 2010.

First of all, you need to decide what kind of a group will be going on such a great escape. Are there children that will be coming along, making it a family vacation? Are there individuals with certain health concerns, barring them from particular activities? Consider these questions, and then decide how you can select a destination that will appeal to everyone.

Cruise ships and some resorts tend to provide a wide range of things to do for every member of the family. However, these options can be pretty pricey, so weigh them against your available budget.

You may want to visit an area that is in its height of beauty during the summer months. During the winter season, areas in the north grow freezing cold and miserable, causing delayed flights and a general sense of discomfort. I once had the opportunity to visit Chicago in February, and my first and final response was, "Thanks but no thanks." You get the idea.

One of the prime locations you may want to consider visiting during the warmer season is Alaska! The Last Frontier truly blooms at this time of the year.

Cruises to Alaska allow you to see a broad view of the landscape, but on the other hand, staying in one area allows you to focus more on connecting with the land and seeing things more closely. For example, selecting a Kodiak bed and breakfast to make your home away from home can allow you to come face to face with the wilderness.

This is going to be better for anyone who is more interested in photography, hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, and any other outdoor pastimes.

Summer is obviously one of the busiest travel times of the year, so start investigating the cost of flights early on. If it is going to be more cost-effective to drive, then try to overestimate the price of gasoline as you begin planning the financial aspect to the vacation.

Summer is not as far off as you think. If you begin planning now, you can look forward to a flawless vacation in a matter of months.
