A Fifth Of All Cosmetic Surgery Patients Are Now Men, Survey Says
Almost one in five cosmetic surgery patients are now men with City bankers the most
likely to spend their bonuses on Botox, a new survey has revealed.
Official figures released by the UK's largest cosmetic surgery provider show that the number of men going under the knife rose by five per cent.
They now account for 18 per cent of all cosmetic surgery patients, with 'Boytox' (male Botox) and 'Sweatox' (anti-sweat Botox), both driving the growth.
Admissions from top celebrities, such as media mogul Simon Cowell and chef Gordon Ramsay, that they have had Botox is also thought to be fuelling the trend.
According to statistics from the Harley Medical Group month on month sales of Botox at their City of London clinic jumped a staggering 24 per cent in September, just as many firms dished out their annual bonuses.
Of all cosmetic procedures breast enhancement remains the most popular operation, with a third of all operations being carried out on new mothers keen to restore their figures after the birth of a baby.
The report also revealed a dramatic rise in non-surgical cosmetic treatments, with dermal fillers and chemical peels up by 26 per cent and 306 per cent respectively.
Jeremy Baker, Consumer Analyst at ESCP Europe business school, said: 'I would predict continued market growth in the cosmetic surgery industry for at least the next five years.
'There's a huge emphasis on grooming in popular culture and the job market is tough - people need to be younger, fitter, and better and this is reflected in the maintenance of personal appearance.
'Men have now caught up with the times and don't want to be left behind so I'm sure we'll see big increases in this sector in particular.'
