In the 1960's the Underwater Society of America had this world famed effigy placed in 22 foot of water on the seaward side of the reef. The figure had been donated by Egidi Cressi in 1962 .

This is an totally striking reef and one of the most visited reefs in Key Largo because of its natural beauty and rather shallow waters. Fantastic marine life giving lovely colors makes Molasses Reef one of the most photographed reefs in the world.
