Celebration is one of the most unique communities in the United States today
. To begin with it was developed by the Walt Disney Corporation and is connected via World Drive directly to the Walt Disney World Resort. Celebration was planned in an early twentieth century style and has not been zoned for high-density residences. The first phase of residential development began in 1996 and by 2001, the town was awarded "New Community of The Year" by the Urban Land Institute.Disney CEO Michael Eisner encouraged Disney Development Company executives to "make history" and develop a town worthy of the Disney brand and legacy that extended to Walt Disney's vision of an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT). DDC executives worked with world leaders in education, health and technology in addition to planners and architects to create the vision and operating policies for the town.Celebration is a fully-functioning town, not just a glorified subdivision. It features its own downtown area, hospital, fire department, post office, schools, office buildings, shopping, restaurants, movie theater, golf course, and more... all with that distinctly Disney feel to it in an art deco style.Celebration is separated into areas known as "villages" and housing consists of condominiums, townhouses, and single-family residences. Transportation is also a bit different in the town of Celebration as most people ride bicycles, walk, or utilize the neighborhood electric vehicles.Celebration plays host to many events throughout the year such as an art show, an exotic car festival, the annual Radio Disney Holiday concert, Oktoberfest, the "Great American Pie Festival" , a "Posh Pooch" Festival, and several downtown events during the Autumn and Christmas seasons where they release fall leaves, and "snow" into the town center. There's also a large fourth of July fireworks. There are currently 105 single-family homes for sale in Celebration, ranging in price from a 3 bedroom, 2 bath for $249,000 at the lowest point up to a 7 bedroom, 7 bath at just under $4 million.
