A Good Circular Saw

Circular saws are widely used to cut the woods or other metals

. These are considered as the indispensable tools nowadays. Many different types of circular saws are available in the market depending on their blade sizes or the type of work they can do.

Small and large circular saws are easily available in the marker. The circular saws of small type have a blade with diameter 150mm or less and motor is usually rated less than 1000W. The large circular saws have a blade with diameter 190mm and usually contain strong, powerful motors. 40mm to 50mm thick piece of timber can be easily cut through small saws, whereas the large saws can cut the timber up to 65mm thick.

Nowadays most of the saws come with tungsten carbide blades. However, there are a variety of blades available to perform different tasks. Steel blades are common in saws. Some saws come with riving knife. Riving knife is a steel piece with crescent shape that follows the blade to guide the saw. It helps to avoid the wood pinching in the blade, especially while rip cutting. Although, all the circular saws come with guards fitted, but yet special care should be taken while handling them.

Circular saws are more used particularly to cut the man-made boards (plywood, chipboard etc) or sawing the long piece of timber up to 50mm thick. Circular saws are not at all suitable for small radius curves. The saw usually rests on the sole plate and the blade runs through a slot in the sole plate while cutting and the blade have an upward cutting action. Sole plate has the tendency to move up and down to adjust according to the depth of cut. It can also be tilted to help the blade to cut with an angle of 45 degrees.

Rip guide is generally fixed to sole plate in almost all circular saws to assist you cut at a fixed distance. Many of these are marked with millimeters. Rip guide is not something to rely on, the better way to have a straight cut is to guide a saws along the wooden batten fasten with wood you are cutting. It is important to adjust the wooden batten carefully with accurate measurements.

There are certain things which you need to keep in mind while operating the circular saw. Never push the saw quickly through the wood as it will heat up the motor due to excessive labor and saw may eventually halt. But many of the saws have slip clutch to overcome this problem. The blade used should be sharp and should be in its top speed before you attempt to cut the timber. Also while operating the saw it is necessary to keep the cords away from the cutting line. If ever you need to replace the blade make sure that the blade is not moving and all the electrical connections have been removed.

Avoid wearing the loose clothes while operating the saw like tie, loose sleeves or scarf and also tie your long hair properly. The use of goggles and breathing mask is also essential to prevent any injuries.
