A Good Dog Adds Quality And Value To Life
There are few things in life more rewarding than sharing your life with a good dog
. For many, it's even better than a human child with the loyal furry friend always by your side, never judging or demanding, just happy to be spending time with you. Dogs adds value and quality to life beyond the unconditional love factor. They give you a reason by necessity for getting out of bed in the morning and greeting the day with snuggles, licks, and laughter. A good dog gets your butt off the sofa and out the door for healthy fresh air, exercise, and socializing with the neighbors. They make every day a special treat.
A good dog isn't born that way, but as an adorable and funny, rowdy, nipping, chewing, pooping puppy. It takes a good human to love that puppy and see his potential as the pet he will become. It takes patience to teach the puppy the manners and behavior needed to meet your expectations and those of society. Though many think of dog training as a kind of organized, scheduled type of thing that is done in set-aside chunks of time every day, in fact, real training happens naturally as a function of sharing time and lives together.
Training a dog requires communication that grows over time. The basis for that communication comes from consistent commands and actions that teach the behaviors you expect. It begins with potty training. You take the dog outside every time you know he will need to go, for instance first thing in the morning and 15 or 20 minutes after a meal. When he goes properly outside where you want him to, you praise him and reward him with affection and play.
Walking with your dog on a leash does more than give you both the exercise you need. It gives your dog valuable mental stimulation and teaches him important social skills on how to behave with you and other humans and dogs. Teaching him to walk nicely on the leash is a part of basic training that furthers your communication and sets a foundation for future skills and social training.
Dog walking also teaches the owner lessons of responsible pet ownership, requiring cleaning up after him so you both stay welcome in the neighborhood. Leaving behind unsanitary, odorous gifts for others to deal with is never called for. Always have a clean-up bag or pooper scooper with you on your walks or when you take your best buddy to run free at the park to ensure that there only smiles when you and your pooch come by.
