Of course, there are many materials available. Cloth fanny packs may be durable, but they do nothing against the weather, especially when it is wet out. What you want in your outdoor packs is a material that is waterproof and able to withstand cold temperatures. Some are available that offer this as a feature, but you could always treat your fanny packs with a waterproof spray yourself.

Another thing to look for in hunting fanny packs is durability. Look for zippers that are not metal as this is a red flag. Make sure that the zippers have zipper-pulls that can be opened with mittens or gloves on your hands. This is especially important if you are going on a cold weather hunt or will be in the snow.

Then you want to look at the size of the fanny pack. Outdoor packs need to be large enough to handle all the supplies you need to stay afield as long as you need to be. Now all those supplies will have a little weight, so look for outdoor packs that are lightweight when empty. Many are available that weigh only 1 to 3 pounds empty and this is desirable.

Some even attach to a separate frame so if you have a REALLY successful hunt, you can drag that meat back to your car.

The main idea when looking for outdoor packs is to find one that keeps your supplies safe from the elements (things like toilet paper, etc...), has a light empty weight so you can load it up, is camouflaged so it remains invisible in the woods and has enough storage for your return trip.
