A Guide To Skiing Holidays - New Years

If you fancy starting the new year with a bang

, a skiing holiday is a great idea. There are many fantastic ski resorts to visit, filled with exciting slopes and buzzing apres-ski entertainment.

In terms of choice, the world is quite literally your oyster. If you want cutting edge facilities with soaring slopes, and the chance to bump into a movie star or two on the piste, then it is hard to escape the mystique of Vail, over in the snow shrouded Colorado Mountains. Although expensive, it is certainly an unforgettable place to visit if you are able to.

A step down in the price league, Canada offers such a glut of options that you will be almost bewildered by the choices. Calgary offers the beautiful Banff and Lake Louise, whereas Quebec houses Mont-Tremblanc, set in a breathtaking location which looks as though it has been plucked out of a Disney movie.

If crossing the Atlantic is too expensive or time consuming, then Europe will welcome you with open arms. To push the boat out in spectacular style, you could stroll over to St. Moritz, where you are likely to spot some celebrities. The resort itself is huge and challenging with fabulous scenery and the night life, with its legendary bars and night clubs, is probably the most up market anywhere on the continent. Kitzbuhel is an altogether different kind of gem, set in a magnificent Tyrolean sweep of mountains and snow splashed valleys and ravines. Brisk and cold outside, the welcome inside among numerous inns and local Gasthofs is warm and vibrant, and likely to stay with you long after you leave it behind.

Chamonix in France offers a variety of entertainment, with bracing slops as well as lively clubs and bars, there is something to do twenty four hours a day. But if you want something just a little bit different, cheaper and off the beaten track, then why not consider Andorra?

This tiny enclave really benefits from being half Spanish and half French. It has built up it's reputation in recent years as a more stylish resort, but it's prices will still leave you with plenty in the bank.
