A Hearing Test Should Be Completed By A Professional
Tasha had had several bad experiences with professionals in the past
. She'd had bad experiences with lawyers, doctors, and even college professors. So, she swore that she would try to take care of most things on her own, whenever possible. Therefore, it was a no-brainer for her to conduct her own hearing test when one of her friends suggested that her ability to hear might be damaged.
"Brandy, I need some help," she said to her friend. "Since, you're the one who suggested that I go through with this procedure, I kind of need you to help me with it."
"Sure," said her friend. "Well, wait. Do you think we can do this by ourselves?"
"Of course we can," said Tasha. "There is this one online hearing test that I found, and I think we should try it out. If not, I can see about getting my own audiometer."
So, after taking another look at the online procedure, she called her friend Brandy back, and they set up a date for the hearing test. When the day of the procedure finally arrived, Brandy came over to Tasha's house showing signs of slight anxiety.
"I don't know about this Tash," said Brandy. "I have no idea what I'm doing."
Tasha smiled and walked over to her friend to provide encouragement. "Brandy, you've always second guessed yourself," she said. "Believe me, you can do this. It's not that hard."
After about 20 minutes, the hearing test was finally complete.
"Okay, so what are the results?" asked Tasha.
"Well, from the look of things, you have almost perfect hearing," said Brandy.
Tasha smiled and raised her hands as a sign of victory. "I knew it," she said. "I told you there was nothing wrong with my ears."
"I guess you were right," said Brandy with a smile.
So, Tasha judged her ability to hear off of the makeshift test that she and her friend conducted and concluded that there was absolutely nothing wrong with her ears. Little did she know, her inexperienced friend had plotted the information incorrectly. Therefore, she came up with incorrect results. In actuality, Tasha was unable to hear as well as she now believed she could. Unfortunately, she found this out the hard way.
One day she decided to take a nap before a very important job interview. She set her alarm clock and plopped down on the couch. The alarm clock went off about an hour later, but she didn't budge. Nearly 40 minutes had passed before she finally woke up and noticed that the alarm had gone off. She quickly arose and ran over to the clock. Noticing the time, she opened her mouth in shock and began to panic. Unable to hear her alarm when it rang, she had missed her job interview. This all could likely have been prevented with a trip to a reputable audiologist for some basic testing.
