Most people set New Year's resolutions. And most set forth with ambition and drive, intending to succeed. Yet few people actually keep their New Year's resolutions. Why? They neglect the most important piece, the foundation from which all their goals can be achieved. They fail to take care of themselves first! That's right. For some of us, our New Year's goal is to get healthy. For others, it's to create wealth, prosperity or happiness through some specific goal they desire. For all of us, the most important tool in our arsenal is ourselves. Working long, hard hours, being stressed and losing sleep are sometimes confused for signs of being driven. But the most truly successful individuals take care of their health and their body first, which provides a foundation of energy and focus that helps them be more productive and efficient during their working hours. It's not a matter of working harder, it's a matter of working smarter. And being smart means not neglecting our physical and emotional health. Those long, stressful days deprive our body of sleep and deplete our resources. Our brain can't function at its best, and our immune system becomes weakened. Before we know it, we're sick, feeling miserable and either not able to work at all or our pace has become sluggish. It happens to everyone from time to time, but if we continuously deplete our body of the energy and resources it needs to thrive, we'll find ourselves down and out more often, and our ambitions will suffer as a result. The good news is there are simple steps we can take to help our body function at its best. A well-functioning body supports a well-functioning mind, our most important tools on our path to success. With a healthy body and mind and strong immune functioning, we'll find ourselves feeling fresher, more energized and enthusiastically ready to overcome each day's obstacles. Eating well, getting enough exercise and plenty of rest are just a few of the standard tactics for maintaining a strong, healthy body. Ensuring proper vitamin and mineral intake, eating some well-known super-foods that are known to replenish our body of valuable resources and taking time out for ourselves each day to reflect or meditate are also extremely important to our well-being. You will quickly find that by taking a few extra minutes each day to take proper care of your body will pay off many times over in the amount of productivity you gain during your waking hours.
