A Live History Lesson At The Heritage Village

Thriving as the city is, it is easy to forget its roots. However that is where the Heritage Village, set in the very centre of Abu Dhabi city, comes into play. Created to replicate a true Bedouin encampment, it provides live exhibits featuring the cultures and lifestyle of the Bedouin and other tribes.

Visitors to the Heritage Village are treated to a detailed tour. This includes the observance of life, as a fisherman, in an oasis, as a pearl diver. The houses are traditionally made of mud and the tents are of goats hair.

The village also features workshops of various crafts and visitors get the opportunity to try their hand at some of the crafts like pottery, brass beating and weaving. The museum showcases jewellery, old coins, weapons, the Holy Quran, old diving equipment etc. Tombs going back to four thousand years also lie within the village. This has greatly added to the villages authenticity and esteem.

The traditional souq is also something that should not be missed together with the spice shop and souvenir shop.

Falconry as a popular sport in the olden days is still continued in this village and is a sight to behold. Camel rides are also available for those who wish to enjoy what used to be a traditional mode of transport. A special treat for the visitor is the ability to sample delectable Bedouin cuisine before leaving the village.
