A Living Dragon in Shanghai

The Sleeping Dragon: Shanghai's urban Myth.

One of the better urban myth of Shanghai is that is a slumbering Dragon still sleeps in shanghai.

The story is best told with a glass of bai jui, a roaring fire and a gathering of friends. So pop to the shops, get cozy and gather round and I will tell you the story of the Shanghai Dragon.

In the 90's when workers were building the downtown intersection, they came upon a site that would not crumble. No matter how hard they hit, smashed or drilled they couldn't move the earth for the intersection to be build.

Scientists and construction experts all came to the site and could not explain why the work could not progress. Everyone was completely baffled by the situation.

Until one day a monk came to the site, and proclaimed"a slumping dragon has awoken due to your building and won't let you continue, you must first please him before you continue"

How can you please an ancient, sleeping dragon; they wondered. The monk told them to erect a pillar dedicated to the ancient dragon. Only then will the Dragon be truly contented and allow you to continue your work. Once the pillar was build, the worker found the ground easy to break and work progress quickly to finish the intersection. People say that if you go and listen by the pillar you can feel the presents of the slumping dragon.

Is this legend real?

I don't know about this but the pillar is still there. So if you take a journey to Shanghai,the pillar is located on the Chengdu Bei Lu and Yan'an Lu intersection.However if you do go to see the pillar be careful of the traffic because i know that is real and it is more dangerous than any dragon.
