Lets take a look at the design of the phone to start. Measuring 108 x 50 x 13.3mm and weighing just 93 grammes, the handset is effectively a miniature version of the incredibly popular Bold 9700. The manufacturer have fitted a very high quality 2.6" LCD display into the handset. This display shows a very good resolution of 360 x 400 pixels, considerably more than what is found on many of the larger screened smartphones currently available. The overall size of the units does strike what can best be described as a happy medium. Certainly not small enough to compete with the range of mini handsets available, the 9100 Pearl 3G is however considerably smaller than the iPhone for example and offers a nice alternative for somebody looking for a functional and stylish handset. In order to reduce the size from other models in the Blackberry range, there is not a full Qwerty keypad on this model, but neither is it the traditional numeric style. Just as the size strikes a happy medium, Blackberry have pitched the keypad somewhere in the middle to with two letters allocated to each key but still layed out in the Qwerty style. For those who feel this may be difficult to get to grips with, the combination of predictive text coupled with a system that learns the words you use most frequently means you'll be composing messages in seconds in no time at all.

The Blackberry 9100 Pearl 3G features a great range of multimedia features to keep the user happy. The Camera fitted on the handset if capable of capturing images in a resolution of 3.2 million pixels. The addition of a flash facility makes taking pictures in lower lighting conditions a breeze. Blackberry have put a shortcut key on the side of the handset allowing you to directly access the camera. This key also works in two parts to take the photos, a half press cleverly allows you to activate the autofocus without physically taking the photo. The music player has a dedicated access key on the top of the handset. Thanks to the addition of a micro SD card slot, memory can be upgraded to up to 16GB, plenty of space for storing all of your music files.

The Blackberry 9100 Pearl 3G is an impressive handset. With great connectivity and an appealing compact design the phone is ideal for people looking to upgrade or those who want a high powered handset that lacks the size of some of its counterparts.
