A Look At The Display On The Htc Sensation Xl

We recently saw the release of the HTC Sensation XE

, a model that offered some impressive improvements on the original Sensation which was released earlier in 2011. Now its the turn of the HTC Sensation XL, the new flagship model from the brand. We take a look at what is on offer from this exciting new handset.

As its name suggests the HTC Sensation XL is the largest model that HTC have released in this range. The phone offers a massive 4.7 inch display that is perfect for viewing web pages and all manner of media files. The display uses the very latest S-LCD technology which offers better viewing angles over traditional TFT screens. In addition to this the capacitive touch panel is integrated with the main display rather than being located on a separate panel. By doing this the manufacturers are able to produce a much more slimline phone which is evident here with the models 9.9mm depth. The screen offers a good standard of resolution at 480 x 800. When we break this figure down into a pixels per inch rating the result is 199 which is satisfactory yet not quite as high as the level found on many devices that offer a smaller screen. A total of 16 million colours can be displayed meaning any image you are viewing looks vivid and the ambient light sensor fitted in the phone detects the current light levels and adjusts the display accordingly. A wide array of technology is tucked away behind the screen to ensure the use of the phone is as functional and responsive as possible. An accelerometer chip ensures that the screen will automatically rotate depending on the position of the phone and a proximity sensor will lock the screen when the phone is held to your face which prevents you accidentally pressing the wrong button.

When we take a look at the design of the HTC Sensation XL it is evident that this phone is both attractive and well built. The main body of the device is crafted from aluminium which has a brushed finish rather than a glossy one which makes the phone less prone to picking up fingerprints. Unlike many of its sibling models the phone is incredibly thin and lightweight at just 162 grammes. Despite its extra screen size the phone is actually over 1mm thinner than the Sensation XE. The metallic unibody is flanked by a soft touch finish around the edge of the chassis that makes the phone feel very comfortable when it is in the palm of your hand. One could argue that many HTC handsets sport a similar appearance but they would be wrong with the Sensation XL. The model immediately jumps out at you when you see it and this is an approach that HTC have deliberately taken as it is their flagship model. The design is much more angular than other models and it almost looks more similar to the Samsung Galaxy S2 than another HTC phone. We can safely say that this model is the best looking that the brand have ever produced.

The combination of a superb large display together with a new type of design should ensure that the HTC Sensation XL proves to be one of the most popular models in the last quarter of 2011.
