A Look At The New Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini
Sony Ericsson have continued the trend set with its excellent Xperia X10 handset by announcing the release of its little brother, the X10 Mini
. This tiny handset aims to maintain the excellent functionality of the X10, whilst scaling everything down size wise into a more consumer attractive package.
The connectivity of modern mobile handsets is one of the most important factors for many would be consumers. The X10 Mini certainly does not lack in this department. Boasting both 3G connectivity along with GPRS and Edge, the handset is perfect for keeping the user fully up to date whilst on the go, whether it be with e mails or just generally browsing the web. WiFi is also included so connection to a personal router or a WiFi hotspot is possible, meaning an even quicker surfing experience. All this is well and good but a decent web browser also makes a lot of difference when it comes to performing such actions. The Mini's browser works very well, despite the lack of Flash support. The Timescape UI cleverly links together contact details, not only the standard message log, contact information and call history but also information from social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Therefore clicking on a contact really does offer you a whole host of material at your fingertips.
No review of a handset such as the X10 Mini would be complete without an obvious mention about the handsets physical dimensions. Nowadays many manufacturers release a "mini" model simply by taking an existing handset and shaving millimetres off its size. However this compact device is the exception to the rule, it has literally been redesigned, and is truly Mini in every sense of the word. Weighing a minuscule 88 grammes and measuring just 83 x 50 x 16mm, the tiny frame still manages to house an impressive 2.55" screen. This 240 x 320 resolution display is a capacitive touchscreen, giving the user excellent responsiveness. An accelerometer chip is included, allowing auto rotate functions and the manufacturers have also cleverly made the display with a scratch resistant finish.
For those who like to photograph with their mobile handset, a 5 million pixel camera has been fitted into the X10 mini. This snapper produces a good quality of image, and the fact that it is backed up with features such as geo tagging, LED flash and autofocus make it all the more appealing. Video footage can also be captured in VGA quality at a frame rate of 30 per second, plus a handy video light is fitted for shooting in darker conditions.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini is certainly compact in its dimensions, but packs a more hefty punch in terms of it performance and features, making it an attractive proposition for smartphone fans and compact phone fans alike.
