This is due to the fact that most accessible vans are designed with floors that are substantially lower than other vehicles. In fact, the average handicap van has a floor that is ten inches lower than the traditional consumer minivan. This makes the angle of the ramp only slight and allows anyone to easily enter the vehicle.

Before buying any sort of van, however, it is a good idea to consider a test drive or at least to find a model in order to see if the person in the wheelchair is comfortable getting in and out of the van as it is parked in a variety of locations.
