A Massage Therapist Can Pick your Profession By your Aches And Pains
As a qualified massage therapists, we often notice that many people working in the same profession have the same types of aches and pains
. With the simple question to a client, "what type of work do you do" we can often predict exactly where the customer will have pain issues on their body without laying a hand on them.
The professional office worker will often have issues relating to one side of their neck . Even the ear they hold the phone up to can be predicted by the associated neck pain around it. The side they hold the phone up to, assuming they're not using an ergonomic ear piece, will often be the side that hurts them. The massage would then focus on stretching the cramped neck out. The massage would also often need to extend down to that side of the shoulder to try and start repairing the tight muscles.
A male office worker will also often have issues with their calves. The massage often has to focus on stretching out extremely tight calves. This interests me as a massage therapist, because often the customer is quite sediment in their job but their calves are as tight as a long distance runner. We have a theory that the body pushes stress to the furthest point away from the heart as possible. So for office workers, it's the two extremes; the neck and the calves.
Tradespersons; builders, plumbers, etc , often complain of pain in the mid section; from the legs, the gluts and the lower back. Often these physical roles involve bending, lifting heavy equipment and machinery so the mid body is strained. The low back is particularly vulnerable. Here, the massage technique involves stretching through back and hip area.
It interests us as massage therapists, that my massage technique is so dependent on the type profession our clients are involved in.The difference between men and women? Women tend to be pamper driven' and enjoy all over massage whereas men seem to be pain solution driven and like the massage to have certain focus points.
