A Perfect Fit: You And Your Office Furniture
When one considers adding or purchasing some office furniture
, the first rule to remember is 'you'. Yes, it's just one word, you! What you need, what you want, what works for you and your budget.
So what is it exactly that your office needs? First, determine your location or work space. Is it a company office, a home office? Next, determine your space. Do you have an actual work area, or does your work space need to disappear the moment your working hours are over? What kind of job do you have, is it corporate, artistic? And last but not least, what is your personal style? If you know the answer to all of these, then the next step is to make the furniture style suit with all of these.
Basically, if you have a home office, then perhaps, in most cases, you won't be having enough space for a work area. For most home offices, hidden furniture is ideal. What does it mean 'hidden'? It's hidden, as in camouflage. It camouflages to the rest of the house, so that when you're not working it doesn't look like a work area. Instead, it looks like a part of the house. Home offices are usually at the corner of the living room, the dining room, the bedroom, or sometimes the hallway and it could be a real eyesore if it remains there.
So what kind of office furniture can actually disappear when you're not working? That's easy, the compact ones. Tables with pull-out shelves usually make good working stations as you could just pull out that shelf, put on it a printer, books, papers, anything to make your working station functional. And once you're done, you can put it back on that side of the house where it serves as a narrow table. Also, hanging folder racks are space savers and would double as your own filing cabinet.
What you may possibly need here is functional office furniture. Although generally, these days what most people need are space savers and you can have that whilst maintaining a functional office too! You could place cabinets horizontally on the wall, thus freeing floor space that can still be used for your desk or other needs. A rolling cart can be added to your work station, as this would add convenience to you by neatly storing your things, whilst being accessible at the same time. If you are sharing the work space with someone, this cart could also be a nice space boundary when placed between desks.
Now how about if your job occasionally requires you to meet people in your work area? That's easy! If you don't have space for a sofa, take a coffee table, position it against the wall and put some cushions and pillows on it. You now have an entertaining area.
Just remember, no matter how small your space is, you can make it work. All it needs is just a little imagination along with some appropriate office furniture!
