A Personal Experience With Online Personals and Dating
After countless hours researching different online dating websites
, I hesitantly placed an online personal ad. Although there were no lack of replies, most of them did not lead to satisfactory acquaintances. Those which seemed promising soon led to disappointment. The weekend following my recent ad, I received an unusual call. Instead of usual introductions, I was asked to attend a musical that evening. I was taken aback and was prepared to turn down the invitation until I learned it was a favorite of mine. I reluctantly agreed.
I was filled with curiosity though as I wondered at the caller's most unorthodox way of asking me out. I did not get my hopes too high though as I have had enough experience with online personals and dating to tell me things could turn out either way. I got dressed and went to the theater as requested. I looked around, wondering who the caller was and how he looked like. I heard an announcement asking for me to approach the help desk. I expected the worst- that it was a no-show. Instead, I was most surprised when I was presented with a lovely corsage and my ticket to my seat. It was for a box seat no less! I looked around for my phantom date but in vain. I certainly was not prepared
for such response from an online personals ad.
I was escorted to my seat, and I noted with disappointment that there was nobody else. I still remained by myself when the performance began. By now, I was dying to know who had invited me and how the evening will pan out. Do I expect to watch the performance all by myself? Who was the mysterious caller? I soon got my answer with the opening scene. The main actor was none other than my high school sweetheart. He looked pointedly at me and winked. We had lost touch after heading to college and I certainly had not expected him to be browsing through online personals. I now certainly looked forward to the rest of the evening.
