The main problem with visiting Rome is that there is too much to and see that you are bound to run out of time before your holiday ends. 1.The Colosseum Perhaps an obvious entry on our list, but it is something that truly cannot be ignored. What an unbelievable site this is, right in the heart of the city centre. A lot of people settle for just seeing the work of art from the outside. However, despite the queues and the crowds and the cost, it certainly is worth it for what you get to see inside.

2.Altare Della Patria Head up here towards the start of your stay to give yourself the best view of Rome you can get without taking to the skies. It is good to get a sense of what the city is like from up here and the marble monument itself isnt half bad either.

3.Trevi Fountain Another unbelievable site that Rome has to offer you. Big tip when visiting this landmark is to go as early as you physically can, the later he day goes on the bigger the hordes get, and in what is a much smaller space than the Colosseum this can become quite unpleasant quite quickly. Aslo make sure you throw a coin in to guarantee you will find love!

4.Pantheon Another piece of incredible early engineering from Italys capital. Well worth a look inside, and keep your eye on the sun shining through the hole in the top of the structure, it works as a sundial. Over 2000 years after it was built it remains the largest unsupported concrete dome in the world.

5.Sistine Chapel, Vatican City Just a short journey away from central Rome is Vatican City. This is a fascinating place to visit whether you are religious or not. The Sistine Chapel is a must see, with some of the most astonishing design work both inside and out.
