Because lipstick evolved over a period of years, it is hard to give one person total credit for the invention. It was not until 1912 that cautious use of Lipstick became acceptable again. However, an article in the New York Times warned women to use it sparingly. The popularity of lipstick began to gain speed during WWII and became a household item for most women.
