A Red Potatoes Recipe With Blue Cheese
Not many people would think about mixing blue cheese into a red potatoes recipe
. But the mixing of different flavors has a long history in the culinary arts. Perhaps the most common everyday mixing of flavors takes place in the many convenience stores that are spread out throughout the country. People will mix the flavor of their soft drinks until they are unrecognizable.
It would not be unusual to see someone mix a regular cola with a cherry flavored drink. Then of course there are the more exotic mixtures. A kid might go wild and put Dr Pepper in with his Grape Soda. Somehow the flavors meld and taste acceptable. At least to the kid they do.
But for more conventional mixtures you might look to bar drinks: Rum and Coke, Whiskey and 7-Up, and of course the irresistible daiquiri: Banana and Strawberry.
Ice cream presents another example of different flavors being mixed together. Who ever thought of putting chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry together? Well that is called Neapolitan and is not only quite tasty but also quite popular.
Maybe the most outrageous ice cream mixture is Rum Raisin Bread Pudding. Think about the potpourri of flavors that make up that concoction. You have rum raisin ice cream that is blended with bread pudding which is swirled with a bourbon caramel sauce. It all works and taste delicious.
So what does all of this have to do with blue cheese and potato recipes? It has everything to do with with soft drinks, ice cream, and adult beverages as far as flavor mixing goes.
Potatoes are the second most purchased item in any grocery store just behind bananas. Does that surprise you? It shouldn't. Potatoes are full of nutrition and packed with vitamins and minerals. Not only are they naturally great tasting but they mix well with other flavors.
