A Review Of The O2 Wireless Prepaid Cell Phones

O2 Wireless is a part of Locus Telecommunications

, located in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. This is not to be confused with the U.K. carrier O2, so if that's the brand you're looking for you're in the wrong place. O2 Wireless offers nationwide GMS service with phones from manufacturers such as LG, Motorola, Samsung and Nokia to name a few. Unlike many other wireless carriers that supply their own phones, O2 wireless allows its customers to bring their own phones onto the plan.

O2 prepaid wireless cell phones offer a rate of 14 cents per minute. Cards can be bought in varying denominations of 10, 20, 40, 60 and 100 dollars. Each of these variations expires at different times in accordance with their dollar amount. The $10 card expires after 30 days while the $100 card expires after 180 days.

If these plans don't appeal to you, there is also a Plus Plan available that offers 500 minutes for a total of 30 dollars. This is equivalent to 6 cents per minute, a significant mark-down. The Plus Plan expires after 30 days. There is also an unlimited nights and weekends package available for $1 per day and you are only charged for the days that the phone is used for calls.

All packages come standard with the basics included. Each phone will be equipped with voicemail, caller ID, call waiting and three-way calling.

Text messaging runs at a rate of five cents per text. This includes sent and received, so let your friends know to take it easy on frivolous messages. The only drawback of the text plan is that the first text of the day costs 10 cents. The unlimited nights and weekends plan includes texts, so that might be a way to skirt the issue altogether.

While 14 cents per minute is the standard payment for 02 prepaid wireless cell phones, the roaming charge for off-network usage is 49 cents. So if you see yourself doing a lot of roaming, you should also see yourself burning through your plan about four times faster than you expected.

International calls will actually run you less than a roaming call. A call to China or New Zealand will only cost you 35 cents per minute.

Payment for the 02 prepaid wireless cell phone is simple enough. You can either purchase a refill card online or in a retail store. Then you dial the number from your phone to activate the plan.

A nice feature of O2 Wireless's plan is that the minutes are pay as you go, so you don't have to worry about losing minutes at the end of the month. Unfortunately, their rates are a little bit higher than some of their competitors, so you may be paying more for those minutes than you could be elsewhere. Overall, a Platinum Plan seems to be the best bet, and it'll be a good idea to stay away from roaming fees. Without the Platinum Plan, unlimited nights and weekends would be a good second option and would pay off in the long run if used correctly.
